UNICRI: Prosecuting Chemical and Biological Crimes
The United Nations Inter-regional Criminal and Justice Research Institute (UNICRI) has recently developed a Prosecutor’s Guide to Chemical and Biological Crimes. This document provides insights and considerations across key elements, associated the deliberate acquisition, production, storage and use of chemical and biological agents and toxins, for nefarious use or misuse, and the impact of these elements on the prosecutorial process. The guidebook aims to raise awareness of the current and emerging challenges related to the investigation and prosecution of such crimes. Whilst the guide is intended primarily for prosecutors, it also covers activities that are performed by the police or other relevant agencies during the investigation.
